Meet the New Marques Almeida Girls, Some of Whom Were Cast on Instagram
This season, designers Marta Marques and Paulo Almeida of Marques Almeida not only discovered new models for their fall 2017 show on Instagram, but also provided cute little videos getting to know each of the past and present “MA Girls” leading up to the show. Since winning the LVMH Prize in 2015, the brand has worked to created its own community both online and off, making it easy to spot an #MAGirl in the wild. Their aesthetic began with fringed denim, oversized fits, and a playful use of color, but continues to surprise each season with new and boundary-pushing takes on emerging trends. This season, for example, they took the vertical stripes trend and fashioned it into an oversized suit jacket paired with tight pants, which looked like David Bowie meets Beetlejuice. The collection also included a nod to skate style with checkered everything—even fur— plus cowboy boots, slippers, and polka dots.
