The New Museum’s Colorful Gala
The New Museum hosted its 35th annual spring gala Wednesday night, but it felt more like summer at Cipriani Wall Street thanks to the invite’s dress code encouraging “jade & coral” attire. Amanda Brooks was one of the few who complied, save the evening’s gala chairs Shelley Fox Aarons, Mitzi Eisenberg and Charlotte Ford. This being an art crowd, a little rule-breaking was to be expected. Olivier Zahm palled around with honorary chair Chloe Sevigny, in a Bianca Jagger-esque white tuxedo suit, while Chuck Close worked an ethnic print head-to-toe look. It proved a nice segue to the Brooklyn-based band The Pimps of Joytime, who played their “Janxta Funk” sound after honoree Paul McCarthy received his award.
