New York Fashion Week: Men's Street Style Stars Are Making the Case for Man Berets
This year, in what seems an effort to heal the somewhat ailing New York Fashion Week: Men's, the menswear shows have been appended to the standard women's ones to make for one 10-day long fashion extravaganza, allowing smaller labels to share the spotlight with major brands like Marc Jacobs and Calvin Klein. As ever, though, the street style stars kicking things off this season have proven they need no help so whatsoever in catching eyes; so far, for the fall 2018 shows, their new set of gimmicks have been just as surprisingly fashionable as the fanny packs, crossbody bags, and Hawaiian shirts they successfully made the case for outside of the shows last summer. As of now, that winter weather-appropriate update includes a series of monochromatic looks, complete with berets; coats that are eye-catching for being either impressively tailored or worn over a single arm; and standout pieces like everything from what appeared to be a panels of mirrored armor to a full-on balaclava, the latter of which had one man looking at first glance like a bank robber. (Upon closer inspection, though, he was of course instead the lucky owner of limited-edition hood from MoMA's first fashion exhibition in 73 years.)
