Never Normal
Painter Walter Robinson’s renderings of present-day catalogue spreads from Macy’s, JC Penney, Target and Land’s End—which are up through this Sunday at New York’s LYNCH THAM gallery—feel at first like memories of a bygone America, one populated by nuclear families and un-jaded summer interns. But look closer at the beatifically plastic faces and maniacally folded flannel and this normcore utopia begins to feel more like an America that never was.
“Figure Studies” is on view through July 13 at New York’s LYNCH THAM, 175 Rivington Street.
