Julie Delpy writes, directs, and stars in *2 Days in New York.*

French filmmakers are making a splash this month: In 2 Days in New York —Julie Delpy’s sequel to 2007’s 2 Days in Paris—out August 10, the writer-director-star’s neurotic onscreen alter ego, Marion, invites her eccentric Parisian family to visit her in New York, where she lives with her unsuspecting new boyfriend (Chris Rock, above). Meanwhile, in Christoph Honoré’s Beloved, a musical drama out August 17, Catherine Deneuve and her daughter Chiara Mastroianni star as a mother and a daughter linked by their romantic woes. The catchy songs bridge the nearly half- century the film covers, yet it’s the small details that make a difference: The story turns, ultimately, on a pair of Roger Vivier pumps.
