Ariana Grande Wears That Diamond Ring at First Public Appearance Since Engagement Rumors

This week, only a few days after news broke of Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson’s rumored engagement, fans suddenly realized that Grande had actually been wearing a massive diamond ring on her left hand for almost two weeks. On Thursday night, amid a veritable tornado of headlines about the ring’s size, style, and cost, Grande attended the Songwriters Hall of Fame 49th Annual Induction and Awards Dinner in New York, and proudly flashed the sparkler as she performed at the event.

The ring served as the anchor of her whole look: The pop star sported a simple black slip dress, a thick black choker necklace, and small stud earrings; she wore her hair—back to her natural brown after brief forays into blonde and silver territory—slicked back in its usual sleek high ponytail, and kept her makeup low-key. Though she wore a few dark midi rings on her right hand, the huge pear-shaped diamond on her left hand stood out against her all-black ensemble and was far and away the star of the show.

According to TMZ, the three-carat diamond, set in a platinum band, cost Davidson around $93,000. The teardrop-shaped piece was custom made by New York–based jeweler Greg Yuna, who spent almost two weeks creating the gorgeous accessory.

The “No Tears Left to Cry” singer flashed the ring while she and Davidson took a late-night trip to Disneyland on Monday, hours after the Internet went into overdrive with the news of their (alleged) engagement. But the ring’s time on her left hand can actually be traced all the way back to at least June 2, when she wore it while performing at iHeartRadio’s Wango Tango event. So, either she and the Saturday Night Live star have been dating (and engaged) longer than previously thought, or Davidson popped the question after mere days of dating. It’s probably a good time to do a deep dive into their relationship timeline.
