Barbra Streisand Pens a Scathing Essay Against Donald Trump

“I am deeply concerned for our country and the world.”

The Queen of the Divas has spoken: Barbra Streisand is the latest celebrity and concerned citizen to take a stand and voice her disapproval for president elect Donald Trump, who will be stepping into the White House as commander in chief in less than 24 hours.

Joining the ranks of other icons, including Robert De Niro, Susan Sarandon, and, of course, Meryl Streep, who have spoken out against Trump and his politics, Streisand recently wrote a passionate takedown of PEOTUS in The Huffington Post.

Streisand, a longtime supporter of Bill and Hillary Clinton, has previously been vocal about her distaste for Trump on Twitter and in interviews, even going as far as telling 60 Minutes{: rel=nofollow} she would move to Canada or Australia if he were to win the election. While it’s unclear if Streisand still plans to relocate (isn’t Malibu far removed enough?), she’s since compiled her concerns into a powerful essay, titled “Clueless, Reckless, Graceless, Mindless And Heartless: Our President-Elect.” As evidenced by the title, Streisand does not mince words in what follows, voicing her extreme lack of confidence in (and fear of) the soon-to-be leader.

“I am deeply concerned for our country and the world,” Streisand writes. “He has demonstrated he is both dangerous and unfit for office.”

Streisand continues to explain that this is not a matter of party affiliation or a difference of opinion—her disapproval of Trump is rooted much deeper. “I have great respect for the experienced politicians who have served our nation with sincere regard to improve and protect the republic, even those I have often disagreed with,” she writes. “I cannot, however, respect a racist, xenophobic sexist who puts us all at risk with his behavior.”

She goes on to reference several of the scandals that have already taken place before Trump has even taken office, including his refusal to release his tax returns, his lack of charitable contributions, and the Russian interference with the election. But one of the most heated passages comes when Streisand addresses Trump’s tweeting habits:

“While preparing to become the president of the United States, he finds the time to tweet—seemingly without anything more important to distract him—about all of the TV shows, magazines and newspapers that don’t bolster his ego enough or that dare to print the facts of his lies,” Streisand writes. “This is unlike anything we’ve ever seen before. Our presidents are usually magnanimous and understand the gravity of the office and our democracy. Meanwhile, he says he does not need to spend time sitting through intelligence briefings, but finds the time to start Twitter fights with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger over television ratings…Donald Trump behaves like a petulant child.

Barbra Streisand closes with a call to action: “Protest. Speak up. Help others. We are all in this together, and it is our right and responsibility to protect our freedoms and help our fellow citizens.” You can read her full essay, here{: rel=nofollow}.
