W‘s beauty director shares her red carpet advice.

Yves Saint Laurent Beauté Volupté Tint-in-Oil

For me, there’s nothing more cringe-inducing than watching an actress walk the red carpet looking totally awkward in what she’s wearing—and I don’t mean the wrong dress. A mother-of-the-bride updo… ridiculous fake lashes…an orange spray tan…an over-Botoxed brow…the list of Oscar-night beauty blunders is long. If I ever score an invite, I’ll avoid all of them by sticking to a few black-tie-ready—but not over-the-top—products. First, I’d apply Caudalie Premier Cru the Elixir, which firms with resveratrol and hydrates with essential oils that sink in immediately, leaving skin smooth and primed. I’d dab Dr. Brandt Needles No More onto my crow’s feet (it temporarily prevents facial-muscle contraction) and then erase my large pores with Kiehl’s Precision Lifting & Pore-Tightening Concentrate. And on my lips, I’d apply Yves Saint Laurent Beauté’s very cool Volupté Tint-in-Oil ($32, yslbeautyus.com), which is like a lip gloss but slippery, not sticky. The Oh My Gold shade goes perfectly with those adorable statuettes.
