Donatella Versace and Models Lip Sync Bruno Mars in Loving Tribute

Naturally, they chose “Versace on the Floor.”

There are many reasons to follow Donatella Versace on Instagram: the behind-the-scenes looks at life as a creative head at an iconic fashion house, the glimpses of her overly pampered dog Audrey, and, more generally, a taste of the decadence she prescribes and lives by. There’s also the fact that every post is like a little present, and such was the case today when the designer delivered an unexpected tribute to Bruno Mars, a video in which she and several models lip sync one of the musician’s songs.

Naturally, Donatella chose “Versace on the Floor,” a cut from Mars’ most recent album, 2016’s 24K. “To my special friend,” she captioned the video clip, which looks more like a campaign trailer than an intimate tribute to a friend. In fact, there’s nothing casual about it — as is the case with everything else Donatella does. For starters, everyone in the clip is wearing Versace and are pictured dancing around a room so ornately detailed it looks like it could be a museum. Plus, Donatella isn’t just joined by anyone who happened to be with her that day. She assembled a super model team for the lip sync, featuring the likes of Candice Swanepoel, Natasha Poly, Hana Soukupova, Kiki Willems, Binx Walton, Alexandra Micu, Hiandra Martinez, Faretta, Mag Cysewska, Diletta Paci, Alpha Dia, Leonard Mushiete, Jurriaan Seppenwoolde, and Adrian Chabada. Together, they pretty much nail the song — never mind that there isn’t any Versace clothing actually laying on the floor (as Mars sang about); just some models sitting on the floor in some prime pieces from the fashion house.

Oddly, this isn’t the first time Donatella and Mars have expressed their admiration for each other. Earlier this summer the two even did so under one roof when the R&B and funk artist played Milan, which the designer watched from — you guessed it — the floor. As WWD reported, Mars took a moment to shout out Donatella before playing “Versace on the Floor.” “I would like to dedicate this next song to the woman who actually inspired me: Donatella, this is for you,” he reportedly said. She later replied by posting a photo of the singer perched up on stage emblazoned with the fashion house’s logo in a Versace shirt with the caption, “Thank you for tonight! What a great emotion.”

Your move, Bruno Mars.
