First-Time Victoria’s Secret Angel Josephine Skriver Made Her Debut in 20 Pounds of Crystals

Backstage at the 2016 Victoria’s Secret show, the newest Angel couldn’t stop talking about how excited she was to be there. Seriously.

Josephine Skriver is not new to Victoria’s Secret – the Danish model has walked in four shows for the lingerie brand.

But this year, at the 2016 Victoria’s Secret fashion show in Paris, she was extra nervous. It was her first time walking in the show as an official Victoria’s Secret Angel, an exclusive contract only given to a handful of select models including Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Jasmine Tookes, and Elsa Hosk.

“It’s almost like I’m doing it for the first time again!” the 23-year-old model exclaimed backstage before hitting the runway. “It’s the first time I’m wearing wings. It’s the first time I’m an Angel. It’s the first time I’m opening a segment. I haven’t been able to sleep for like three weeks because I’m that excited.”

Her outfit this year—which consisted of a whopping 450,000 Swarovski crystals, and weighed over 20 pounds–made the evening even more special. “I’m dying,” she said. And not because of the weight; she’s been working out enough to carry the ensemble with ease. “It’s so sparkly, I can’t stop looking at it! I feel like I sparkle more than the Eiffel Tower when it’s blinking.”

Skriver couldn’t stop gushing about her look for the show, which also included a pair of custom Brian Atwood boots. “I am loving that it’s all silver – it’s one of my favorite colors, if you can call it a color. I look like you took all of Paris’ light and literally put it in a bucket and dumped me in this bucket and took me out and I was dripping.”

The only people more excited than Skriver for her Angel debut is her family.

“I’ve been the most impatient person on the planet,” she said. “I think my whole family is really excited that this is finally happening because they’re like, ‘Okay, come on, we get it.’”

Fortunately, the sisterhood of Angels has been very supportive. “I’ve never had sisters before, and now I have 14 girls on speed dial!” Skriver said. “You can always just text someone, and there’s someone with good advice. It has helped me grow so much as a model – some of the older girls let me watch how they’re modeling, how they’re posing. Everyone has been so great about taking me under their wings.” And, as we know, those are some extra special wings.
