Love’s Labour’s Lost: Found in Central Park

What: The opening night of The Public Theater’s Shakespeare in the Park production of Love’s Labour’s Lost. The Bard’s comedy got the musical treatment courtesy of director Alex Timbers, of Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson fame.

When: August 12

Where: The Delacorte Theater in Central Park, the stage of which was a cross between a Southwestern resort and a Mexican spring break spot, thanks to a wooden slat-roofed bar. The packed after party was at the nearby Belvedere Castle.

Who: In addition to the play’s cast (including Rachel Dratch and Daniel Breaker), plenty of theater-lovers dressed in wedge sandals, summer dresses and for the guys, button downs and slacks.

Why: An evening of free theater with the backdrop of a summer sunset is pretty special. Throw in (spoiler alert) a sparkly tap number, a boy band rendition of “To Be With You” and a full marching band and, well, kids you’re not in Stratford-upon-Avon anymore.
