The Show: Marc Jacobs

The Look: Joan Jett—The giant yellow light cast over the Marc Jacobs show sapped the color from everything it touched “like a black and white photograph,” said Nars founder and creative director François Nars. So why bother with color? Nars stuck to a black smoky eye and a small touch of white liner. (The yellow light was recreated—in miniature—backstage so the looks could be reviewed properly.) Guido Paulau, working for Redken, designed matching shaggy wigs. The finishing touch: A swipe of the yet-to-be-released Marc Jacobs nail polish in red.

The Products: Nars Black Valley Eye Paint (out this fall), Nars Santa Monica Blvd Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner, Redken Guts 10 Root Targeted Volume Spray Foam, and Marc Jacobs Enamored Hi-Shine Lacquer in Shiny and Jezebel (out this fall).

The Trick: “At the last minute we add a little grease to eye makeup to make it look like the girl has been out and the makeup is a little sweaty,” Nars said.

The Scoop: The Marc Jacobs polishes (launching this fall at Sephora) are said to be so packed with color that the manicurist for the show, Elisa Ferri, finished her job in record time.
