Over two years after the project was first announced, the director of a documentary about Rihanna says we could be seeing footage in as little as two months. Director Peter Berg told SlashFilm, “I think she’s an extraordinary young woman and it really is kind of a pretty comprehensive profile of what goes in to making her this talent that she is. The work ethic, the talent, luck, the hustle, the vision. She’s a really, really interesting woman and the movie will be out in about a month and half, two months we’ll be able to start showing it.” As Rolling Stone points out, the documentary, about Rihanna making her album Anti, was supposed to come out in 2017. Instead, it looks like it’ll be a Fall release.

Berg is reportedly putting the film together in the style of “D.A. Pennebaker’s legendary Bob Dylan documentary Don’t Look Back,” according to Rolling Stone. Though he’s dabbled in music video direction, Berg is primarily known for his action movies, including the recent quartet of Mark Wahlberg Saves The Day flicks Lone Survivor, Patriots Day, Deepwater Horizon and Mile 22, currently in theaters. He also helmed the beloved feature film Friday Night Lights, the very weird Will Smith vehicle Hancock, and the critically panned Battleship, which marked the film debut of…Rihanna! Ah, it all makes sense now. Way to play the long game, both of you.

Rih, meanwhile, is currently filming Hiro Murai’s Guava Island, also starring Donald Glover and Letitia Wright. And then an album? Please? Anyone? A Rihanna album? Seems like this movie will be out before 2018 is over, so at least that’s something. The lesson of Ocean’s Eight holds true: any Rihanna is better than no Rihanna at all.
