When Robert Rauschenberg’s private collection goes on sale at Gagosian Gallery in New York on November 4, expect everything from modern music scores (from friends like John Cage) to the works of early moderns. “Bob was a collagist,” Robert Rauschenberg Foundation curator David White explains, “and his collection came about in the same informal way.” Among the gems: two early Cy Twombly paintings and Jasper Johns’s iconic 1960 Map (above).
