Jane Fonda Looks Incredible on the 2017 Emmys Red Carpet

There’s a small squadron of septuagenarians in Hollywood who seem to have discovered the fountain of youth and are, apparently, dipping into it on a regular basis, including Dame Helen Mirren, Susan Sarandon and, of course, Jane Fonda. These stars regularly show up actresses a quarter of their age by bringing unprecedented amount of glitz and glamour to red-carpet events, and the 2017 Primetime Emmy Awards are no exception.

Jaws dropped at Sunday night’s event when Fonda appeared on the red carpet in a perfectly ’70s-inspired getup. She wore a floor-length, curve-hugging hot pink Brandon Maxwell gown with bell sleeves and a coordinating pink belt, and accessorized with silver pointy-toe pumps, a glittery silver clutch purse, and a matching dramatic diamond- and emerald-studded necklace and earrings by Gismondi 1754. The Grace and Frankie star also wore smoky eye makeup and light pink lipstick, and ditched her signature perfectly coiffed bob for a long blond ponytail with face-framing bangs.

In a red-carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight, Fonda, who is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Grace Hanson in Grace and Frankie, revealed the surprising inspiration for the night’s look. “This look makes me feel fantastic,” Fonda said. “I watch what Gwen Stefani does on a red carpet and try to copy her, and that’s the truth. It doesn’t come naturally to me, but she does it so great. So I try to do what she does.”

Emmy viewers were appropriately impressed with the 79-year-old’s breathtaking look, and many of them turned to Twitter to express their feelings on the topic. “JANE FONDA IS TURNING 80 YEARS OLD THIS YEAR AND STILL LOOKS BETTER THAN I EVER WILL. THAT PONYTAIL. LIFE,” one Twitter user wrote, while another added, “Amazing. Jane Fonda being an absolute goddess at 79! she will look better than all of us today than EVER.”
