Soo Joo Park’s Beauty Secrets Include Facials and Snickers Bars

The Korean, Lagerfeld-approved model is a pro at haircare and a newbie at working out.

Soo Joo Park

For the five years that Korean model Soo Joo Park has been ruling the runways and starring in campaigns like Chanel, she’s also enviably maintained a somehow healthy-looking head of bleach blonde hair, which she brought to the beach this past weekend for brunch at the Surf Lodge with Harry Brant. After a turn on the swings, she caught up with W on her beauty tips, love for Broad City, and newfound discovery: working out.

Your look in three words: Eclectic, easy, fun.

Never leave the house without: PKW (phone, keys, wallet – Hannibal Burress’s character says so in Broad City, which is one of my favorite TV shows.)

Beauty from the inside out: Homemade kale salads with raisins, feta cheese, balsamic vinaigrette and chicken breast. I also love Mediterranean food and feel like it’s quite healthy.

Exercise regime: I started working out regularly only about three months ago. I like to mix it up between Barry’s Bootcamp, SLT, and Mile High Run Club and try to go three times a week.

Go-to snack: Homemade nutrition bars made with quinoa, hemp seeds, cashews, dried cranberries with agave syrup. Or Snickers bars.

Beauty essentials: L’Oréal Infallible Matte Max in 001 Silencio, Redken Blonde Idol Custom Tone Violet Conditioner, Red Flower Wanderlust Nourishing Lip Balm, and Koh Gen Do Brightening Mask.

Skincare splurge: I don’t really splurge but try to go get facials once every 2-3 weeks from a great low-key spot in Chinatown.

Haircare secrets: I wash my hair once every 2-3 days and use Redken Extreme Primer to add extra biotin to the strands. Then I use a deep conditioner and leave it on for 10-15 minutes.

Favorite hair professional: Dhaniel Doud at Redken. He saved my hair.

Pharmacy find: L’Oréal Glam Bronze La Terra Tribal and L’Oréal Colour Riche Rouge La Palette.

Favorite Korean beauty products: Inisfree Canola Honey Serum, Banila B Clean It Zero, Son and Park Beauty Water, and Vidi Vici Air Cushion Compact.

In-tub must-read: The Girls by Emma Cline, and any New Yorker laying around.

Spa-cation at: Aire Ancient Baths in TriBeCa for the salt water pool or Mandarin Oriental on the Upper West Side for pampering massages.

Always in your suitcase: Hollywood Fashion Secrets Double Stick Tape, Tangle Teezer, Beets and Roots tea from T2, Redken extreme hair care products in travel sizes, phone chargers, and SIM cards.

Go-to music for getting ready: Drake‘s “Controlla” (“Too Good,” “With You,” “Hotline Bling,” “Controlla”); Ariana Grande’s “Dangerous Woman” (“Into You,” “Side By Side,” “Alright”); and Rihanna’s “ANTI.”

Go-to spot for a night out: Great cocktails at chill bars like Bonnie Vee and Bacaro, or karaoke at Sing Sing.

Favorite way to relax/unwind: Weekend getaways upstate to beach houses or the Surf Lodge in Montauk, or stay in with Netflix and Seamless.

Fragrance of choice: Chanel No. 5.

Best advice from mom: Always be thankful and look on the brighter side of things.

Best advice from the pros: Confidence and hard work will pay off. Having a great personality will extend your career.

Beauty icons: Debbie Harry, Donna Jordan, and China Machado.
