Chanel Couture Spring 2020: Looks From the Runway
For her second couture show as creative director of Chanel, designer Virginie Viard re-created the Aubazine orphanage, an institution located in a French town of the same name. It’s where Coco Chanel grew up—and it served as a reference for the school girl and nun-inspired clothing presented inside the Grand Palais today. Ankle-grazing skirts, exaggerated Peter Pan collars and visible white tube socks were worn by models including Gigi Hadid and Kaia Gerber. And, in the traditional fashion of the late Karl Lagerfeld, who passed away last February, a bride closed the show—this year, in a sequined veil and button-down dress.
