Hedi Slimane’s Almost Famous Moment at Celine Fall 2020
Fashion Month isn’t complete unless a designer taps ’70s inspiration for their collection—and this time, it’s Hedi Slimane at Celine who’s done it. Although Slimane declined interviews with the press backstage at Paris Fashion Week, his fall 2020 line needed little explanation. (The show notes, meanwhile, stated that the looks were unisex—women could wear the men’s clothing and vice versa). Paisley prints, shrunken leather jackets, oversize shearling coats, cravats, and ruffled blouses appeared as though they were straight from the 2000 film Almost Famous’s lot. Velvet blazers in jewel tones called to mind the Yves Saint Laurent archives. The designer has once again shown his devotion to bourgeois rock stars of the era, as he’s done since he joined Celine in 2018—and in the process, solidified a signature look for the brand.
