On an unassuming block of Ludlow Street on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, deep in the heart of Chinatown, a group of 20-somethings queued up outside what was once an electrical contractor’s office for the first day of Hood By Air’s surprise sample sale. Announced Monday, the five-day sale features pieces from the past five years of Shayne Oliver’s cult genre-defying brand, with each day curated to highlight a particular year. It was the perfect venue for a brand that’s no stranger to guerrilla happenings; last season, its show was sponsored by Pornhub. But the sale wasn’t just a chance for fans of the brand to score new pieces they might have missed the first time around; it also provided an opportunity to show off their best looks, including new-again Fila, plenty of metallics and fishnets, distressed denim, and luxe outerwear.
