Irving Penn’s Photos, From the Iconic to the Unseen, Under One Roof in Dallas

Irving Penn

“Irving Penn: Beyond Beauty”, which kicked off the Dallas Art Fair last week with a splashy opening at the Dallas Museum of Art, may be the late photographer’s first retrospective in nearly 20 years, but his eye still feels fresh. Stretching from the ’30s to the 21st century, the 140 photos that make up the ambitious exhibit range from the usual suspects, like portraits of Dalí and Capote, to plenty of unseen work, like shots from Penn’s travels to Peru and New Guinea, and even footage of the photographer himself, captured on Super 8 in Morocco. See some of Penn’s most iconic shots, and a few new classics, here.
