Lounging at Ryan Trecartin and Lizzie Fitch’s Trippy New Show
Inside Andrea Rosen Gallery, it can be easy to forget that one is actually on Manhattan’s West Side and not in some alternate universe. Ryan Trecartin and Lizzie Fitch‘s latest collaborative installation entirely immerses visitors—visually, aurally, physically—and collapses the distinction between spectator and participant. Video projections span the walls; headphones allow visitors to plug in to the installation; gymnastics padding and papier-mâché rocks stud the floors, upon which one can really settle into the viewing experience. A hint of fluorescent green, present both onscreen and in the gallery’s furnishings, cuts through the darkness. It’s a striking show and naturally spectators have taken to Instagram to post their selfies in situ.
