A surprising theme emerges at Art Basel Miami Beach.

Endless parties and late nights won’t be the only indulgence at this year’s Art Basel Miami Beach, thanks to a serendipitous duo of desert-centric events. Kicking off the week on Monday, the gallery-cum-boutique Chamber offered a buffet of designer treats by fashion designers Viktor & Rolf, Italian design duo Formafantasma, and Dutch designer Floris Wubben at the boutique Miami hotel Casa Claridge. Never one for small gestures, artist Jennifer Rubell will up the ante at her much-anticipated annual brunch on Friday by treating guests to fifty cakes in honor of her parents’ 50th anniversary. “A tremendous part of their marriage and collection has to do with not really aggrandizing themselves, but instead celebrating the young artists,” says Rubell. “I really wanted to do a piece that had celebrated their generosity, humility, and care-taking. This will be my first piece where my parents are performers.” For those lucky enough to snag an invitation, Rubell’s deliciously interactive performance promises to be the ultimate carbohydrate-fueled hangover cure. “I’m giving them what they need, even if they crash an hour later,” says Rubell. How sweet.
