In April Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli announced plans to give their hometown of Milan a shrine to contemporary art. During the Salone Internazionale del Mobile design fair, the pair unveiled Rem Koolhaas’s scheme for a new Fondazione Prada headquarters, to be housed inside a complex of early- 20th-century buildings. Koolhaas, a close chum of the couple’s, will add a tower and an auditorium. Completion of the 180,000-square-foot space is scheduled for 2011. “I’ve rooted for this for so long, and it’s finally happening,” Prada told WWD. “I love Milan. I know I could go anywhere I want, but my roots are here.”
