Sept 3: Hôtel Americano

“Everybody is looking for new places to do events, dinners, drinks,” says Paul Kasmin of the reaction from his fellow Chelsea gallerists to the new Hôtel Americano, the first U.S. property from Grupo Habita, run by the hip Mexican hoteliers Carlos Couturier, Moisés Micha, and Moisés’s brother Rafael.

With a prime location on New York’s West 27th Street; a rooftop grill; a sunken, Brazilian-style basement lounge with a VIP area; and 56 ryokan-inspired rooms (many equipped with Donald Judd–like boxes for beds), this boutique hotel is making a bid to become the spot for the international art flock. The party gets started Labor Day weekend.
