Naomi Campbell, Adwoa Aboah, and Christine & the Queens Take In Burberry’s Playful Takes on the Classics
In its 161st year, Burberry is keeping things fresh as ever. On Monday, the brand, under the guidance of creative director Christopher Bailey, presented deconstructed and reconstructed takes on its classic staples like trenches, shirting, and sumptuous knitwear. Its bright, clean color palette of greys and pale blues — this was the label’s spring collection, after all — offered a refreshing counterpoint to the somber blacks and mulberries of the Fall 2017 season. Soundtracked by a live set from musician Anna Calvi and with a starry front row that included supermodel Naomi Campbell, musician Christine and the Queens, and models Adwoa Aboah and Lily Donaldson, it was the latest installment in Burberry’s see-now-buy-now, co-ed strategy. While many brands have taken to simply showing their menswear and womenswear collections side-by-side, Burberry also embraced a certain measure of gender fluidity this season, with lace- and embroidery-embellished tops for him and an oversized boiler suit for her.
