Herno Is Tailoring Outfits for a New Generation of Women

Meet the Italian brand redefining modern luxury.

Herno

Italian heritage brand Herno is proving that timeless craftsmanship can have a decidedly modern point of view. Founded in 1948 on the shores of Italy’s Lake Maggiore, the brand made its name with beautifully crafted raincoats that were designed to withstand the elements. Today, that same marriage of function and fashion has come far beyond outerwear.

Under the direction of founder Giuseppe Marenzi’s son, Claudio, since the early 2000s, Herno has expanded its universe to include everything from polished tailoring and architectural dresses to plush knits and statement-making coats. For Fall 2026, the result is a wardrobe designed with a new generation of women in mind — one where the lines between workwear and weekend wear, timeless staples and standout pieces, are delightfully blurred (although let’s be clear, there are still signature outerwear pieces within the overall collection). Think an architectural sheath dress, an eye-catching floral jacquard blazer, crisp twill trousers, and more: luxurious pieces with enough personality to make an outfit feel special, and enough versatility to keep them in constant rotation.

Impeccable Outerwear

Today outerwear is not simply braving the elements and more about making an entrance. The brand has branched out quite a bit since its early days, and it’s no surprise that even the outerwear has a noticeable modern twist. You can still find the innovative classic waterproof trenches and puffers for stormy days, but now there’s a variety of styles that are more about making a fashion statement than a weather statement.

Let’s start with the Baby Alpaca and Wool Blend Coat, which is a perfect example of the Made in Italy craftsmanship Herno is known for. The bouclé overcoat slightly billows out at the bottom, creating a cocoon-like silhouette you wouldn’t expect from such a fabric. It’s the kind of coat that turns the most mundane walk into a moment. There’s something glamorous about the Jacket in Shearling, a gorgeous chocolate brown nappa style with a shearling lapel. Then there’s the Shearling-Effect Pea Coat that has the easy confidence of a downtown uniform — equally at home thrown over trousers or layered atop a romantic floral dress.

Refined Tailoring

If Herno’s outerwear makes an entrance, its tailoring knows how to hold the room. Herno is invested in the “Italian way,” placing an emphasis on care and meticulousness in each piece. These are all qualities seen in the label’s tailored assortment this fall, ranging from jackets to dresses to trousers. Every drape, hem, pocket, and even stitch appears to have been carried out with laser precision, the result of decades of experience in cutting, sewing, and refining the skills and traditions that make such exact results.

One look at the Corduroy Blazer’s defined ribbing and large lapels is all you need to see its flawless execution. The Bi-Stretch Fabric Dress, a sheath crafted from technical materials and boasting a back slit, makes a case for the kind of dress you’ll reach for when you want to look instantly pulled together without feeling overly done. And if you’re looking for one item to bring endless sophistication, it’s the three-dimensional Floral-Motif Jacquard Blazer, worn slightly oversized for a fresh take on femininity. It’s polished, yes, but the unexpected texture and generous silhouette keep it from feeling too precious.

Effortless Everyday

The real magic of Herno’s collection, though, may be how effortlessly its pieces blur the lines between “dressed up” and “dressed down. They’ve become a fashion destination that is not only about wardrobe staples but also about head-to-toe dressing, no matter the occasion. There’s something innately special about pieces that are so deliberately designed and sewn, but that are simultaneously not too fussy for errand runs, school drop-offs, weekends, and the like.

For a sweater you’ll wear 24/7, try the Cable-Knit Wool Jumper with its ultrasoft fabrication and voluminous lines—it’s just as chic standalone as it is paired with a fur jacket. Or pair them with wide-leg Corduroy Trousers that are tailored yet not tight, especially in a rich camel hue that’s of the season. And when it’s time to do denim, reach for Denim Jeans that are more trouser than jeans, rendered in a barrel-leg silhouette that looks just as cool with a heeled bootie as it does with a pair of sneakers.

Because the modern wardrobe isn’t really about having a separate outfit for every version of yourself. It’s about having pieces that can keep up with all of them. Whether you're layering a shearling-lapel jacket over tailored trousers for a board meeting or throwing on a cable-knit jumper for the school run, Herno is banking on the idea that the next generation of women doesn't want to compartmentalize their lives or closets. More than 75 years after a small Italian factory started waterproofing coats, the brand is still proving that the most timeless pieces are the ones that work everywhere.
