Carolina Herrera Spring 2015

In a season where the chatter revolved around Instagram posts and the must-have invite was to a dinner chez Azzedine Alaïa in honor of the Apple Watch, many designers seemed intent on giving their signature aesthetic some cyber appeal.

Rick Owens’s Techno Goths Inspired by ballet, Bauhaus, and Blade Runner, Owens fashioned lightweight tulle into severe, linear shapes that gave his high priestesses a stark, robotic quality.

Dior’s Techno Courtiers Cross-referencing the decadence of 18th-century court dress with the clinical efficiency of a modern-day science lab (think crisp white piqué pieces trimmed with regal brocades, or, a jersey tank top attached to a floral jacquard balloon skirt), Dior’s Raf Simons painted a rather romantic portrait of what he calls the “near future.”

Carolina Herrera’s Techno Socialites Come benefit season, the social set will be trading its taffeta confections for pixelated digital-print gowns fashioned from “foam” or other “techno fabrics,” as Herrera refers to her brave-new-world textiles.
