Ahead of CFDA Awards, Up Close & Personal with Fashion’s New Guard
On Monday night, the 2016 CFDA Awards ceremony will take place in New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom. Hosted by Joel McHale, the likes of Joseph Altuzarra, Marc Jacobs, The Row’s Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen and Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez, among others, will go head to head for the prize of Womenswear, Menswear or Accessory Design of the Year. But while these names have become mainstays on the calendar, the rising stars of fashion are up for the Swarovski Awards in the same categories, and will walk away with financial support from the crystal company should they be selected as winners. Brandon Maxwell, Ryan Roche and Monse‘s Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim are among the nominees, and ahead of the award ceremony on June 6th, photographer Lachlan Bailey shot them for the CFDA Journal in various New York locations including The Lotus Club, The Metropolitan Building and nearby Laundromat, Gotham Gym, “The Thing” Record Store, and Academy Mansion. Styled by Jay Massacret and with creative direction from Trey Laird, its an intimate look at fashion’s faces to know now.
