Emmy Nominations 2016: Tom Hiddleston Scores First Nod

Tom Hiddleston

The Emmy nominations are out today and there’s not too many surprises: Viola Davis, who clinched the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama award last year for her role in How to Get Away with Murder, is on the list yet again, alongside fan favorites like Homeland’s Claire Danes and Empire’s Taraji P. Henson. During Thursday morning’s broadcast of the Emmy nominations 2016, Anthony Anderson of black-ish, a nominee himself, and Lauren Graham of Gilmore Girls, announced the slate of potential prizewinners for the ceremony, slated for mid-September. Eligible series entered consideration from June 1, 2015, to May 31, 2016, and were divided into drama, comedy, and limited series. Over on the men’s side of things, Tom Hiddleston, Taylor Swift’s new boyfriend, Liev Schreiber, Rami Malek, and Kevin Spacey top the list for Lead Actor in a Drama. Among comedies, a genre which has grown more varied in recent years, nominees range from the hybrid scripted-and-standup Inside Amy Schumer, whose titular lead has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy, to the quasi-drama black-ish, starring nominee Tracee Ellis Ross, to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, whose bright humor anchored by nominee Ellie Kemper belies its dark themes. Meanwhile, Sarah Paulson and Kirsten Dunst battle it out in the Best Actress in a Limited Series category. Over the years, many of these stars have caught our eye, some appearing in our August issue. Here, we look back at the best of the most beautiful 2016 Emmy Awards nominees in the W archives.
