What Goes On Behind the Scenes of a Dance Rehearsal with Dior, an ABT Dancer, and the Guggenheim Museum

“Falls the Shadow,” a new dance performance co-produced and danced by the American Ballet Theater principal dancer Daniil Simkin, costumed by Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri, and choreographed by Alejandro Cerrudo at the Guggenheim Museum, debuts next week. With a title pulled from the T.S. Eliot poem “The Hollow Men,” “Falls the Shadow” is the synthesis of dance, visual art, poetry, fashion, and architecture. “There’s a sense of ceremonial happening,” Simkin said recently. “We’re trying to push the envelope and see where dance can go, with which elements dance can continue to grow.” Here, get an up-close look at the couture costumes and the final dress rehearsal.
