To Market: From Valentino Pre-Fall to Byzantine Jewels

W’s Fashion Market and Accessories Director, Karla Martinez, takes us along for a week of press previews. This week, an inside look at the Valentino Pre-Fall collection and her latest diamond-encrusted obsessions.

“The week started with the presentation of the Valentino Pre-Fall collection. I love that the Valentino mannequins always sport a red lip—it really suits these ladies in white.”

“I am always searching for the perfect black knee-length boot—this Valentino one is exactly that.”

“On Tuesday we went up to The London hotel to preview fine jewelry from Gilan, a Turkish family-owned house. This charm ring was one of my favorites.”

“And here is the inspiration for the ring—a beautiful wave mosaic dating back to the early Byzantine Empire.”

“When I go on jewelry appointments, I can’t stop trying things on—like this amazing bracelet also from Gilan.”

“On Wednesday, we were invited by Sarah Besnaino and Marina Larrouden of for a little lunch to celebrate Etername’s first point of sale in the US—Saks Fifth Avenue. The Parisian brand, whose name means “make it eternal” in Greek, was founded by Besnainou in 2007 and I’m so glad it’s now easier to find it stateside.”

“Another bracelet [from Etername] that I could easily take home.”

“These Etername diamond pave bands [on right] are so cool.”

“We had a nice lunch with the Veronicas—sisters-in-law Veronica Miele Beard and Veronica Swanson Beard—from Veronica Beard. Here Veronica Miele Beard shows off a new knit for fall as Lindsey Frugier, W’s Market Editor, looks on.”

“I am a huge fan of Jo de Mer swimwear; Amalia, the designer, is such an elegant woman with incredible taste. One of my new favorites: her lime green tank and bottom.”
