Having lived in Los Angeles since 2002, Jeremy Scott is officially an Angeleno, and his affection for the city was on full display at the show he presented Friday night at L.A. Live for Moschino, an array of 60-something looks that combined his 2017 resort and spring 2017 men’s collections. The timing coincided with the start of the London Collections: Men’s shows halfway across the world in the U.K., which couldn’t have been further from Scott’s mind. “It’s my love letter to Hollyweird,” the designer said backstage, as Hailey Baldwin clad in a Hawaiian-print bikini got a head-to-toe spray tan. “I kept thinking about all those girls and boys strolling down Melrose Avenue in some crazy outfit that you have to crank your head to get a good look at. It’s that hyped up eclecticism of cultures and periods that I wanted to show. It’s very me.” Indeed, there was much to take in as models like Taylor Hill, Devon Aoki, and Alessandra Ambrosio paraded out in a dizzying mix of crochet bra tops, shisha-embroidered flared trousers, tiger-striped tuxedos, and punchy tie-dyed T-shirt dresses. Anna Cleveland was so taken with the groovy, psychedelic spirit of the collection, she did a slo-mo dance performance down the runway, dressed in a hyper-colored cocktail dress with a Hindu-inspired goddess printed on it. In fact, Jourdan Dunn in a cropped sequin bomber jacket and matching low-slung pants was about as tame as the collection got. But then, pop and excess are par for the course when Scott is at the wheel. Hollyweird, indeed.
