The red carpet looks at the official 2020 Oscars ceremony on Sunday night were littered with rule-breaking and political references. But when it came time for the after-parties, attendees seem to have made a collective move to loosen up. (Some even wore Dolce & Gabbana, putting politics aside entirely.) Lili Reinhart got playful in exaggerated florals by Marc Jacobs, and Hunter Schafer twirled her way down the red carpet in a full-on fringe look by Givenchy. Meanwhile, Usher made a surprise foray into the menswear game, opting for a silky suit of the sort popularized by Timothée Chalamet. As for those who came directly from the main ceremony, plenty went the opposite route of Jane Fonda, who delivered on her promise to never buy a new piece of clothing again by rewearing an Elie Saab gown she’d previously worn to a major red carpet event. Tracee Ellis Ross changed up her look not once, but twice, at one point stringing a strand of diamonds from her nose to her ear. Laura Dern kept it classic in Armani Privé, but also made the welcome move of representing an up-and-coming designer by draping a 1017 ALYX 9SM blazer over her shoulders. Here, see those looks and more of team W’s picks for the best dressed at the after-parties.
