Prada Fall 2020: Surreal Glamour and Tiny Bags as Jewelry
The theme for Prada’s fall 2020 collection is “surreal glamour,” which was expressed on the runway in a series of powerful, kinetic looks. Along with the graphic knitwear, thick rubber-soled shoes, and bold color combinations for which the designer Miuccia Prada is known, there were deconstructed skirt pleats that fell like ribbons from the waist, layers of bejeweled fringe slashed across sweaters, and padded nylon jackets that echoed the shape and volume of traditional furs. Some models wore tiny structured bags as necklaces and bracelets—more lockets than purses—in a cheeky nod to the increasingly diminutive accessory trend. The design firm OMA transformed a space in the Fondazione Prada into a set of “imaginary piazzas” in moody but energetic color palettes that attendees viewed from above, giving the proceedings the slightly voyeuristic feel of looking into a courtyard from a second-story window.
