With the sudden death of Prince at age 57, the fashion world has taken to Instagram with remembrances of a fashion and music icon. Over the course of his more than three decade-long career, he released an enormous catalogue of tracks that defy genre but won him myriad fans and admirers. At the same time, his style defied gender norms, incorporating ruffles, paisley, high heels, and, of course, a whole lot of purple. Celebrities like
makeup artist Dick Page, photographer Steven Klein, and starlets like Suki and Immy Waterhouse, Kylie Jenner, and Lena Dunham are now mourning his death on Instagram, posting images, lyrics, quotes, and fond recollections of early encounters with the Prince himself. See a few of the fashion world’s reactions to Prince’s death, here.

Everything has gone sideways. Prince. The King. Purple Rain changed my life. Everything felt different after I put that record on my parents turntable and opened the poster inside. Many years later, Prince requested my presence for two shows in Montreal. I don’t think I slept for those two days. He played all the hits. I stood onstage while he played Purple Rain and maybe my soul left my body for a moment? I stood in the wings while the audience begged for more. Over and over, till 4am. I believe these were the only true encores I have ever seen. I thought the theatre was going to collapse from their pounding and wailing. Thank you Prince, for changing music forever. It seems lately, like so much of America is obsessed with putting out the fires of originality and removing everyone they deem as freaks from their sight. You helped us freaks feel all right about being different Prince. We will keep up the fight and never forget you.
Good bye beautiful man….your soul and your voice will be here for ever ! Love Diane
