While Beyonce was busy prepping for her Grammys performance on Saturday, Jay-Z held court at his annual Roc Nation pre-award show brunch. At 12 p.m. sharp, party guests descended upon the Owlwood Estate in Holmby Hills dressed in the best “brunch attire” per the invite’s instructions. “I was a little confused about brunch attire. I think brunch attire depends on how hungover you are,” said one female guest to her friend as they made their way into the mansion and grabbed a glass of Champagne (which, of course, was Jay-Z’s own fizz label Armand de Brignanc). As it turned out, pretty much anything goes when it comes to brunch with Roc Nation. Guests, including the Haim sisters, DJ Khaled, T.I., and 2 Chainz, showed up in everything from black leather jackets and sneakers to three piece suits (like the maroon one Jay-Z wore). “I thought a little color would be fun,” said Justine Skye, who was in a metallic purple MSGM skirt and pearlescent violet clutch. The crowd ate french toast bites and mini avocado toasts, stopped by the cigar station, and talked Grammy festivities on the lawn for a few hours while they awaited Jay and Beyonce’s arrival. A few hours later, he showed up along with Sean Combs (at which point, the whole party paused), and Rihanna shortly after that, but Beyonce was sadly a no-show. The crowd would have to wait one more day to catch a glimpse of the pop star, who announced she’s pregnant with twins earlier this month.
