Rosamund Pike’s Style Evolution, from Bond Girl to Gone Girl

Rosamund Pike 2012

Rosamund Pike first came onto the world stage as in 2002, thanks to her role as a Bond girl in Die Another Day. After keeping a somewhat low-profile, Pike returned to the limelight in 2014 as the lead character in David Fincher’s Gone Girl. In her profile of Pike in W‘s May 2014 issue, W Editor at Large Lynn Hirschberg described the actress as “classically beautiful—in the style of old-school movie star blondes like Grace Kelly and Tippi Hedren.” Throughout her career, Pike plays into that look on the red carpet, often favoring glamorous gowns in bold red or classic black, and fashionable sheath dresses that would make Kelly proud. In honor of the British actress’ birthday, here’s a look back at her style evolution, from 2002 to today.

Rosamund Pike made one of her first red carpet appearances at the 2002 LA premiere of “Die Another Day.” In a backless camisole dress, the budding Bond girl was the early aughts personified—for better or for worse.

The May 2003 preview party for “Down With Love” called for casual-cute, and Pike’s cherry blossom tee and butterfly-print metallic skirt did not disappoint.

Pike’s pretty blond hair is a constant, with the notable exception of the 2005 “Pride & Prejudice” premiere. Her teased, tight curls had volume, sure, but there’s a reason it’s been almost a decade since we’ve seen this look.

Pike showed off her quirky side at the 2006 South Bank Show Awards. Patterned black socks with lavender sandals are generally not considered a red carpet “do,” but being a Bond girl seems to award one certain privileges.

At the 2007 Venice Film Festival, Pike channeled a prom princess in a tea-length, skin-tone-colored Prada dress, bare face, and messy bun.

With a draped look in several shades of blue, heavy makeup, and chunky grey pumps, Pike’s red carpet reputation took another hit at the 2008 British Fashion Awards.

At the 2010 Venice Film Festival, Pike redeemed herself and epitomized the blond bombshell in one fell swoop (and one very sleek Gucci dress). Of course, a well-timed gust of wind never hurts, either.

Now a bonafide movie star, Pike stunned at the December 2012 premiere of “Jack Reacher” in a chic up-do and a bright yellow gown by Alexander McQueen.

With a Christian Dior gown and cool wavy bob, Pike flaunted her new look at the 2013 Vanity Fair Oscar Party.

Pike came full circle at the March 2014 James Empire Awards. Her lace Erdem jumpsuit and asymmetric ‘do toed the line between her quirky aesthetic and bombshell glamour.

As Pike’s baby bump grows, so does her fearlessness. The star looked elegant in a dramatic black gown by Altuzarra for the “Gone Girl” world premiere.

An appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” called for a more casual getup from the drama-loving star. A Rag & Bone tank dress hugged Pike’s curves, while her preferred black pumps made appearance number two.

The actress continued her love affair with the shift dress en route to “The Today Show.” Pairing a Louis Vuitton dress with a Marni coat and pumps, Pike was a vision in nude.

Rosamund Pike did not take home the Academy Award for her performance in Gone Girl, but she no doubt took in plenty of attention in this stunning crimson Givenchy Couture number.

While a black dress is a safe classic, Rosamund Pike stood out in a sea of complicated gowns in one by Roland Mouret.

It seems Gone Girl star Rosamund Pike can do no wrong on the red carpet. With a sleek up-do and a white Valentino couture gown, the actress epitomized timeless elegance.
