On Sunday night, the London-based indie magazine System celebrated the launch of its seventh issue at the Marks Club in Mayfair. Helmed by Alexia Niedzielski, Elizabeth von Guttman, Jonathan Wingfield and Thomas Lenthal, the glossy has become known for securing juicy fashion exclusives (past features have included Raf Simons, Yohji Yamamoto and Nicolas Ghesquierre), and this issue was no different. Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele and CEO Marco Bizzarri grace the cover, and their accompanying interview offers an intimate glimpse inside their successful partnership. “We were keen to show the success of Gucci against the backdrop of the ‘broken fashion system’ and general unease that we’re constantly reading about,” explained Niedzielski. “Here you have a global brand that’s not afraid to shake things up, while exuding humility and positivity.” Von Guttman added, “Alessandro Michele and Marco Bizzarri appear to be indulging in the most unfashionable of activities – actually having fun.” Having fun was the name of the game last night. Guests including Lily Donaldson, Peter Dundas, Jamie Hawkesworth and Juergen Teller clinked glasses and enjoyed hors’ douvers, before a performance by Mimi Xu and Rosey Chan of Carnet de Voyage, the much-hyped sound and visual performance duo.
