After the fashion marathon that is New York, London, Milan, and Paris, it would not be unexpected to feel some street style fatigue. Or so you’d think. Enter Tokyo Fashion Week, the sartorial equivalent to a highly caffeinated double espresso. If the main show circuit is all about head-to-toe Gucci and Vetements, than Tokyo is the polar opposite, favoring, instead, eclectic, unexpected combinations that incorporate no-name brands with more recognizable pieces. A bomber jacket over a bright red school uniform-like jumper paired with knee-high socks and platform Mary-Janes? Sure. A referee jersey, chain belt, and mohawk? Why not. When it comes to this species of street style stars, anything goes. While plenty of eyes will be on the catwalks, where buzzy brands like Doublet, Murral, and Chika Kisada will present their Fall 2017 collections, some just as inspiring fashion choices will be just outside.
