What was Victoria Beckham doing in Hong Kong on a random Saturday night in March? Administering to a good cause, it turns out. She was getting honored by amfAR for her efforts on behalf of the HIV/AIDS research organization. This was one of amfAR’s many, regular galas around the world, and they had on hand a clutch of name actors and models, including Uma Thurman, Karolina Kurkova and Michelle Rodriguez, plus Asian celebrities like Michelle Yeoh, Elvis Han, Liu Wen, Amanda Strang and the pianist Lang Lang, who performed. The Calvin Klein and Harry Winston-sponsored event raised more than $4 million by the end of the night, helped along by a Simon de Pury-led live auction, when guests bid on items including an original piece of art by Adrien Brody, also in attendance, titled Grey Dragon, which sold for $100,000.
