Chic today, passé tomorrow is the name of the game in the fashion world.

Chic today, passé tomorrow is the name of the game in the fashion world. But five years after Target brought in Isaac Mizrahi to jazz up its clothing department, the mass-meets-class designer collaboration trend shows no sign of letting up. In February alone, two new deals were announced. Adam Lippes agreed to do a collection for Barcelona-based retailer Mango, which opened its first New York store, MNG by Mango, last November. Lippes will create about two dozen Adam for Mango looks—half for men, half for women—and debut them in 2009. “I went to Barcelona to meet with them and was blown away by their operations,” Lippes told WWD. Meanwhile, Everlast tapped Zaldy, who codesigned L.A.M.B. with Gwen Stefani until last year, for a special clothing collection that transcends the brand’s sporty image. Included in the fall 2008 launch will be a blue leather trenchcoat, cotton dresses and knit hoodies. As for Target, the retailer is rumored to be bringing in up-and-coming New York designer Richard Chai for its next GO International initiative.
