It comes as no surprise that Brie Larson got the memo about wearing the color red on International Women's Day, and she confidently took the red carpet in a bright Oscar de la Renta gown at the premiere of her upcoming film, Kong: Skull Island.

Since her Oscar-winning role in Room, the 27-year-old actress has devoted a significant amount of time to advocating for sexual assault survivors, and noticeably did not clap for accused-assaulter Casey Affleck when she presented him with the Oscar for Best Actor this year for his role in Manchester by the Sea. While on the carpet yesterday, Larson told press that her action, or rather non-action, at the Oscars "Speaks for itself."

Wednesday, March 8th was declared by the Women's March organizers as an international strike for a "Day Without Women," but Larson took her obligatory public appearance as an opportunity to draw attention to the cause. The color red has a long history with International Women's Day since the observance came to fruition over 100 years ago, and is a powerful signifier of both love and anger in this current moment. Thousands of women around the world took to the streets in protest yesterday wearing the color, and Larson's wardrobe choice was a small but not insignificant act of solidarity.

Larson was joined by her co-star, Tom Hiddleston, (who was not in red, but rather Gucci), as well as her fiancé, Alex Greenwald, who wore a red flower pin. Kong itself is also a sci-fi action film with a female lead, so we'll take it.
