Cate Blanchett Comes From the Future

A little mod, a little futurism, a lot of Louis Vuitton at the “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez” exhibition in Tokyo.

Cate Blanchett

Who: Cate Blanchett.

When: Thursday, April 21.

Where: The “Volez, Voguez, Voyagez” Louis Vuitton exhibition in Tokyo, Japan.

What: A Louis Vuitton Fall 2016 midi-length dress.

Why: Blanchett’s unadorned ensemble underlines the versatility of Nicolas Ghesquière‘s most recent collection for Louis Vuitton. While the runway looks had grungy undertones thanks to lace-up patent combat boots, here, the color-blocking and primary color palette read sleek and futuristic. There’s a hint of cyborg chic, too — the dress’s panels give the impression of a robotic carapace, and the gently shimmering fabric looks downright technological. A definite, and welcome, departure from the usual dainty ruffles the actress often elects.
