In the early Nineties the industry had high hopes for Christian Francis Roth, who, along with Isaac Mizrahi, Victor Alfaro and Todd Oldham, was considered one of that decade’s hot emerging talents. But like many of his contemporaries, the creator of crayon-print dresses and dollar-bill frocks struggled with finances and was forced to shut down his business in 1995. Now, after garnering experience designing for Nordstrom and Anne Klein, among others, Roth is ready to step into the spotlight again. At New York Fashion Week in September he’ll unveil Francis by Christian Francis Roth, an upscale contemporary line. “This collection maintains all the fun detailing and conversational concepts of the collections I used to do,” he told WWD. After the launch, Roth hopes to resurrect his namesake designer collection too.
