Modern English: The Cotswolds

Travel Flash: A hip English inn.

Housed in an 18th-century Palladian-style mansion in the picturesque Cotswolds town of Painswick, a chic 19-room boutique inn known as Cotswolds88hotel has joined the relatively small number of other luxury nests in the area, namely Barnsley House, Cowley Manor and Cotswold House. The new hotel is by far the most forward-looking of them all, with hip touches such as a white leather–covered bar and funky wallpaper designed by photographer Kate Garner. Guests can expect in-room spa treatments and regional organic food. Owner Marchella De Angelis chose 88 as part of the hotel’s name because the number is considered lucky in her native Malaysia. “I run the place a little like it’s my own home. If I don’t like you, you won’t get in,” she jokes. Rooms, $310 to $790; cotswolds88hotel.com
