FKA Twigs and Petite Meller

Even as the pop-industrial complex continues to churn out wannabe Gagas, two rising starlets stand out for their eccentric styles. Known for her hypnotic, intricately drummed songs, the London singer FKA Twigs resembles a punk mystic; her ingenue sensuality is accentuated by print-happy getups and pigtails that morph into elaborate S-curls—an homage to Josephine Baker. The Parisian singer Petite Meller, with her childlike coo and theatrical makeup, brings to mind a kabuki Lolita, but her romantic, pastel-toned outfits also recall ingenues from French New Wave films.
