Between festival season and fashion month, it’s been a busy, busy September for celebrities — and, of course, their tireless stylists. So many red carpets to attend, so many front rows to rule. While Toronto and Venice have been chugging along, and fashion week tears through New York, Milan, and London, over in San Sebastian, Spain, the city’s long-running film festival has hosted premieres for Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley’s Snowden, and, most recently, the Ewan McGregor, Dakota Fanning, and Jennifer Connelly-starring adaptation of Phillip Roth’s American Pastoral. The film’s stars just wrapped up their own Toronto premiere, and now they’re touching down in Basque country to go at it again. Connelly and McGregor stepped out under looming grey skies on the beach of San Sebastian for the festival photocall, dressed in understated, monochromatic ensembles to match the moody atmosphere of the film — and the weather. It was the film’s lead actress, though, who particularly caught our eye.
Who: Jennifer Connelly.
When: Friday, September 23.
Where: The photocall for the premiere of her new film American Pastoral at the San Sebastian Film Festival in San Sebastian, Spain.
What: A Louis Vuitton Resort 2017 black ruffled minidress with heeled combat boots, also by Louis Vuitton.
Why: We appreciate a woman who adheres to a theme. For a beachfront photocall, there’s no better texture than a good scuba fabric: utilitarian, on-trend, waterproof. Nicolas Ghesquière’s Cruise 2017 collection, which touched down in Rio over the summer, was replete with scuba in sporty colors, but with classically feminine details like ruffles and a few florals. With its high neck and gold O-ring zip, Connelly’s look is all wetsuit on the top, all cute press opportunity look on the bottom. She proves that, when it comes to beach wear, you can have it both ways.
