Like Kate Upton,Gigi Hadid had her big breakout moment when she wascast in a Guess campaign. But unlike that other blonde beauty, Hadid was 2 years oldwhen it happened. The daughter of the former model Yolanda Foster and the real estate developer Mohamed Hadid, Gigicontinued to appear in the brand’s ads until she outgrew Guess Kids. Now 19, sheis an accomplished equestrian who has competed on the celebrity team at the Longines Los Angeles Masters. And, after a hiatus from modeling, she’s back in that saddle, too: She appeared in this year’s Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, opened the fall 2014 Jeremy Scott show, became the face of Tom Ford’s Velvet Orchid perfume, and is starring in Steven Meisel’s Pirelli calendar. (She is also squeezing in criminology studies at the New School in New York.) “Depending on my hair and makeup, people go from thinking I’mall-American to asking if I’m Asian to being really confused,” says Hadid, who isof Palestinian and Dutch ancestry. “I can go from an exotic look to the girl-next-doorthing.” Well, perhaps the bombshell next door.
