Bid on It: Hotel Crillon’s One of a Kind Chairs
Having closed its doors several weeks ago to start a two-year renovation, the Hotel Crillon in Paris is now putting most of its furnishings under the hammer. Some 3500 lots—from monogrammed bathrobes to Murano chandeliers—are being sold off April 18-22 in an effort to raise funds for the grand overhaul.

Some 3500 lots—from monogrammed bathrobes to Murano chandeliers—are being sold off April 18-22 in an effort to raise funds for the grand overhaul. An additional 28 armchairs, customized by a roster of artists, stylists, and designers, will be auctioned off at the hotel on April 21 to benefit the French charities Samu Social and Foyer de la Madeleine. Peter Copping, Peter Lane, Alber Elbaz, and Numero’s Babeth Dijan were among those tapped to refurbish the Directoire-style chairs, formerly of the hotel’s Les Ambassadeurs restaurant. And each is more inspired than the next: Andrew GN imagined a voyage by Marie-Antoinette to the Congo for his wild leopard-and-straw creation, while Elie Top, the jewelry designer for Lanvin, looked to the hotel’s royal clients, for his elaborate gem-adorned offering.
