The verdict’s in: In June a U.S. District Court in Detroit sentenced Jacob “the Jeweler” Arabov to 30 months in prison and a $2 million fine. Arabov, best known as the hip-hop world’s favorite source of bling, was arrested in 2006 on charges of laundering money for a Detroit-based drug ring. Last October, hoping for a lighter sentence, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charges of doctoring records and lying to a federal agent. Regulars at his New York store on East 57th Street, which remains open for business, will no doubt miss him, but there is a silver lining for Arabov—pun intended. He has until January 15 to begin serving his sentence: plenty of time to sell $2 million worth of ice.
